Mission of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is to provide the most comprehensive, compassionate and humane services to enhance the lives of companion animals for families and the community; to educate and to prevent the cruelty of all animals in the region we serve.  Open door shelters will never turn away an animal in need.

There are thousands of animals who are given up every year. Sometimes people lose their jobs and can no longer afford to take care of their pets or have to move and cannot take their pets with them. Other times people experience life-changing events, such as a divorce or new baby, and have to surrender their furry friends. As more and more shelters become "limited access," people have no other choice than to surrender their pets to an open-door shelter, that will never turn away a pet in need.

Because of the stigma that open-door shelters have, many people choose to make donations to limited access shelters, when, in-fact, it's the open-door shelters who need the money the most. The Western PA Humane Society helps over 10,000 animals each and every year - which is a lot of mouths to feed and medications to administer.

Going Home Greyhounds is holding its annual Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, December 7. Since it was such a hit last year, we’re holding it at the same place – the Home Economics building in South Park (see directionson our site. Dogs are welcome, but no small dogs please.

There will be a variety of merchandise for sale at the bazaar. All credit cards will be accepted for purchases at the GHG sales table. Cash or checks are also accepted. If you would like to volunteer at the sales table (we schedule one-hour shifts) or donate any sales table items to the bazaar, please contact Trish Bufano 412-264-5129 or xracers@comcast.net

Several vendors will be selling collars, coats, apparel, etc., and we will be having a Chinese auction. If you would like to donate a raffle item or basket or would like to volunteer to sell raffle tickets, please contact Colleen (greyluvr@verizon.net or 412-819-0983).

As usual, Santa will be there taking pictures with your greys (or any medium to large non-grey dog). Photos will be placed in a frame for a donation of $5.00. We’re looking for helpers to print and place photos in the frames. Please contact Mary Fratangelo  412-310-1453 or hartsofgrey@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer. http://www.goinghomegreyhounds.org/node/1237
